Manager - Technical Services
Lead the Future of Underground Mining
An internationally recognised mining company is seeking an exceptional Manager - Technical Services to lead an integrated technical services function supporting a world-class underground mining operation.
This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for bringing together mine planning, survey, geotechnical engineering, ventilation, and technical optimisation to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable underground production. Working at the heart of the operation, you'll drive operational performance, optimise mine execution, and lead multidisciplinary technical teams in one of the industry's most technically challenging environments.
The Opportunity
Reporting to senior operational leadership, you'll be responsible for aligning short-term planning with strategic mine objectives while ensuring operational plans remain responsive to changing orebody conditions, geotechnical challenges, ventilation requirements, water management constraints, and production priorities.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Services Leadership
- Lead an integrated Technical Services function comprising Mine Planning, Survey, Geotechnical and Ventilation disciplines.
- Drive collaboration between technical and operational teams to optimise mine performance.
- Establish governance frameworks, technical standards and operational best practices.
- Provide technical leadership during changing mining conditions and operational challenges.
Mine Planning & Optimisation
- Lead the development of short-term mine plans and operational schedules.
- Ensure planning aligns with long-term strategy while remaining responsive to changing underground conditions.
- Optimise mine sequencing, development priorities and production schedules.
- Support operational decision-making through continuous plan optimisation and performance analysis.
Technical Engineering
- Provide leadership across geotechnical engineering, underground survey and ventilation functions.
- Ensure technical constraints are integrated into operational planning.
- Oversee mine reconciliation, spatial accuracy and compliance with approved mine designs.
- Support the management of challenging underground conditions including ground stability, ventilation performance and water management.
Operational Performance
- Develop performance metrics and technical reporting systems.
- Analyse operational trends and identify opportunities to improve productivity, recovery and operational efficiency.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on planning accuracy, operational responsiveness and technical excellence.
- Drive digitalisation and optimisation initiatives across the technical services function.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead, mentor and develop multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Build strong relationships across Mining, Geology, Processing, Maintenance, Projects and HSE functions.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Support business transformation, succession planning and technical capability development.
Safety & Governance
- Champion industry-leading health, safety and environmental standards.
- Ensure technical risk is proactively identified and managed.
- Maintain governance, compliance and reporting standards across the department.
- Promote operational excellence through robust technical assurance and quality management.
About You
- Degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience within underground mining operations and technical services.
- Strong leadership experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Proven expertise in mine planning, operational optimisation and technical governance.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate planning with operational execution in complex underground mining environments.
- Strong commercial awareness, analytical capability and decision-making skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities.
Highly Desirable
- Experience in large-scale mechanised underground mining operations.
- Exposure to technically complex orebodies and dynamic underground mining environments.
- Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering, ventilation, mine survey and reconciliation.
- Experience with mine planning software such as Deswik, Datamine, Vulcan, MineRP, Surpac or equivalent.
- Knowledge of digital mining technologies and operational performance systems.
- Professional engineering registration will be advantageous.
