The business develops and delivers large-scale energy infrastructure projects that support the transition toward a more flexible and resilient energy system.

As the company continues to build its US portfolio, it is strengthening its development platform and is seeking an experienced Project Development Director to lead the end-to-end development of front-of-the-meter projects across key US markets.

This is a senior leadership opportunity within a high-growth organization, with significant responsibility for shaping the company's US development portfolio and long-term market expansion.

Role Overview

The Project Development Director will lead project development activities across the United States, with accountability for the origination, advancement and delivery of a utility-scale project pipeline.

The successful candidate will define and execute development strategy, lead internal development teams and external partners, and ensure projects progress effectively from early-stage origination through permitting, interconnection, commercial structuring and Financial Close / Ready-to-Build.

The Director will play a central role in the company's US growth strategy and will work closely with senior leadership on portfolio expansion and investment decisions.

The role is hybrid and can be based anywhere in the United States, with travel as required.

Key Responsibilities

Define and execute the US project development strategy.Build and manage a pipeline of utility-scale energy projects across priority markets.Evaluate and prioritize development opportunities based on strategic, commercial, regulatory and financial considerations.Ensure development activities remain aligned with broader corporate growth objectives.Lead projects from origination through Financial Close and Ready-to-Build.Oversee permitting, interconnection, land control and stakeholder engagement activities.Manage development budgets, schedules, risks and resources.Establish effective development processes, governance structures and reporting frameworks.Support market-entry strategies and identify new development opportunities.Lead negotiations relating to development agreements, partnerships and strategic relationships.Support commercial discussions with utilities, developers, investors and other strategic counterparties.Work with internal teams on project valuation, financial analysis and investment decisions.Build, lead and mentor the US project development team.Coordinate cross-functional activities across Legal, Engineering, Grid, Finance, Commercial and External Affairs.Manage external developers, consultants and specialist advisors.Provide clear reporting to senior executives and board-level stakeholders.Provide regular updates on project pipeline progress, development risks and investment opportunities.Present project recommendations and strategic initiatives to senior leadership.Contribute to corporate planning, portfolio strategy and investment decisions.

Required Experience & Background

10+ years of experience in utility-scale energy project development in the United States.Demonstrated track record taking projects from early-stage development through permitting, interconnection and Financial Close or Ready-to-Build.Experience leading development teams and managing external development partners.Strong understanding of US ISO markets, interconnection processes and utility-scale energy infrastructure.Experience negotiating complex commercial, development and partnership agreements.Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Energy, Business or a related discipline.

Preferred Experience

Experience developing projects in ERCOT, SPP and/or PJM.Background in energy storage, renewable energy or hybrid energy projects.Established relationships with utilities, developers, landowners and relevant regulatory stakeholders.

Title: Project Development Director

About the Role

The Project Development Director will be fully accountable for the advancement of utility-scale energy projects in the United States, from early-stage site identification through permitting, interconnection, and Financial Close / Ready-to-Build status. We are looking for a true developer - someone who has personally owned projects end-to-end, not only specific components of the development lifecycle. The role is hybrid and can be based anywhere in the US, with travel as required by project needs.

Key Responsibilities

Originate and advance greenfield and co-development opportunities.Lead projects from site control through permitting, interconnection, and Financial Close / Ready-to-Build.Own project schedules, development budgets, and risk registers.Ensure alignment between development milestones and corporate pipeline targets.Lead interconnection strategy and manage applications within major US ISOs (e.g., ERCOT, SPP, PJM, CAISO or similar).Coordinate technical studies and manage consultants supporting grid integration.Optimize project positioning within ISO processes and timelines.Lead permitting strategy and oversee submission of applications to relevant authorities.Act as primary point of contact for local authorities, municipalities, landowners, and community stakeholders.Manage environmental assessments and mitigation requirements.Drive resolution of development risks proactively.Support commercial strategy in coordination with internal teams (Power Markets, Structured Finance, Commercial Engineering).Contribute to development of business cases and financial models.Support negotiation of key development agreements (land, interconnection, development partnerships).Prepare projects for investment decision and Financial Close.Coordinate internal teams (Legal, Grid, Finance, Engineering, Commercial).Manage third-party developers and advisors.Ensure structured reporting, dashboard tracking, and executive visibility.

Required Experience & Background

10+ years of experience in utility-scale energy project development in the United States.Proven track record of personally leading projects from early-stage development through permitting and interconnection to Financial Close or Ready-to-Build.Experience developing front-of-the-meter projects connected to major US ISOs.Strong familiarity with interconnection processes and ISO market structures.Demonstrated ability to manage land acquisition, permitting pathways, and community engagement.Experience working in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Energy, or related field.

Preferred Experience

Experience developing projects in Texas and/or SPP.Background in energy storage, renewable energy, or hybrid projects.
