An engineering and infrastructure business is seeking an experienced Senior Supply Chain Manager to lead procurement and supply chain activities across rail, electrical and civil projects, fleet maintenance and plant hire operations.
Working closely with executive leadership, Operations, project teams and Finance, you will ensure that materials, equipment, spares and services are available when required. The role combines team leadership and commercial procurement with direct involvement in supplier management, purchasing controls, delivery coordination and transaction close-out.
Key responsibilities
- Develop procurement plans for projects, shutdowns, fleet maintenance and critical spares, identifying long-lead items and supply risks.
- Prepare RFQs, evaluate quotations and support tender pricing, considering technical suitability, quality, availability and total delivered cost.
- Negotiate supplier pricing, delivery schedules, payment terms, warranties and commercial conditions.
- Manage purchase orders, supplier agreements and commitment registers within approved authority.
- Maintain supplier compliance records, monitor performance and develop alternative sources of supply.
- Coordinate parts and repair procurement with workshop and technical teams, tracking collections, warranties, returns and credits.
- Oversee delivery coordination, stock receipts, issues, transfers and counts with stores and site teams.
- Work with Finance to complete payment documentation and resolve invoice discrepancies, outstanding deposits, credits and refunds.
- Lead procurement, buying and stores personnel, setting priorities and maintaining effective handovers.
- Produce procurement, spend and exception reports, escalating risks before they affect operations.
Requirements
- Grade 12 and a relevant degree or diploma in supply chain management, procurement, logistics or a related commercial discipline, or a recognised equivalent qualification with relevant experience.
- At least 10 years of relevant procurement or supply chain experience, including leadership of a team or function.
- Strong experience in construction, engineering, infrastructure, fleet or plant procurement.
- Proven capability in supplier negotiations, purchase-order controls, contract administration, inventory management and cost analysis.
- Proficiency in Excel and procurement or ERP systems.
- Ability to work with technical specifications and obtain specialist approval where required.
- Strong organisation, numerical accuracy, integrity and ownership of deadlines.
Rail or shutdown experience, CIPS qualifications or MCIPS status, and relevant CILT credentials would be advantageous.
