The Service Technician is responsible for providing technical support, mechanical refurbishment, electrical and control & instrumentation servicing, equipment assembly, commissioning, installation and fault finding across the company's complete range of mineral processing equipment. The role combines workshop-based refurbishment activities with extensive field service work at customer mining operations.

The successful candidate will ensure equipment is assembled, tested, commissioned and maintained to OEM standards while providing exceptional customer support and contributing towards business growth through professional technical service.

Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Refurbishment & ServicingCarry out complete mechanical refurbishments of crushing, screening, sorting and mineral processing equipment.Perform electrical servicing and repairs on company equipment.Conduct Control & Instrumentation maintenance and repairs.Restore equipment to OEM operating standards.Inspect components for wear and replacement requirements.Replace bearings, shafts, liners, motors, drives, gearboxes and associated mechanical components.Perform preventative maintenance activities.Complete breakdown repairs.Carry out planned maintenance work.Maintain workshop quality standards.Equipment AssemblyAssemble new crushing equipment.Assemble complete sorting systems.Assemble process-related equipment.Interpret engineering drawings and assembly documentation.Install mechanical components.Install electrical systems.Install instrumentation components.Ensure correct alignment of rotating equipment.Complete pre-delivery inspections.Prepare equipment for factory acceptance testing.Testing & CommissioningPrepare equipment on test beds.Conduct operational testing.Complete functional testing.Verify equipment performance.Conduct mechanical inspections during testing.Perform electrical verification testing.Assist engineering personnel during commissioning.Support final customer acceptance testing.Ensure equipment complies with quality standards.Resolve commissioning issues.Site InstallationInstall new equipment at customer sites.Install refurbished equipment.Coordinate installation activities.Ensure safe installation practices.Verify installation quality.Complete commissioning support.Provide customer technical guidance.Support plant start-up activities.Ensure minimal downtime during installations.Travel extensively to customer sites.Fault Finding & Technical SupportDiagnose mechanical failures.Diagnose electrical faults.Identify instrumentation problems.Troubleshoot hydraulic systems.Investigate operational issues.Perform root cause analysis.Recommend corrective actions.Prepare detailed fault reports.Provide technical recommendations.Support customers with equipment optimisation.Customer ServiceVisit customer operations as requested.Build strong customer relationships.Provide professional technical advice.Respond to equipment breakdowns.Support emergency call-outs.Maintain excellent customer communication.Represent the company professionally.Promote aftermarket services.Identify opportunities for additional work.Support customer satisfaction initiatives.Documentation & ReportingComplete test certificates.Prepare Quality Control Plan documentation.Complete service reports.Submit technical reports.Maintain accurate maintenance records.Complete timesheets.Record equipment history.Document repair recommendations.Maintain inspection records.Provide management updates.Planning & CoordinationAssist with maintenance planning.Support work scheduling.Compile spare parts requirements.Assist with customer quotations.Coordinate repair activities.Ensure parts availability.Support workshop scheduling.Monitor job progress.Assist project execution.Meet delivery deadlines.Leadership & SupervisionSupervise planned maintenance tasks.Provide technical guidance.Support junior personnel.Assist with employee training.Conduct toolbox talks.Promote safe work practices.Ensure quality workmanship.Encourage teamwork.Share technical knowledge.Support continuous improvement initiatives.Workshop ResponsibilitiesMaintain workshop equipment.Ensure housekeeping standards.Maintain tools and equipment.Ensure workshop cleanliness.Support inventory management.Maintain safe working conditions.Follow workshop procedures.Report damaged equipment.Promote efficient workflow.Maintain workshop discipline.Safety & ComplianceComply with all health and safety legislation.Wear required PPE.Follow company safety procedures.Identify workplace hazards.Report unsafe conditions.Participate in safety meetings.Maintain environmental compliance.Ensure safe lifting practices.Support risk assessments.Promote a zero-harm culture.Standby SupportParticipate in 24/7 standby rotation.Respond to emergency call-outs within required response times.Support critical mining operations.Maintain emergency readiness.Provide after-hours technical support.Success MeasuresHigh first-time fix rate.Excellent customer satisfaction.Quality workmanship.Minimal equipment downtime.Accurate documentation.Strong safety performance.Effective fault diagnosis.Successful commissioning outcomes.Professional customer engagement.Contribution towards aftermarket business growth.
