An established engineering and infrastructure business is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial management and cost control across a portfolio of complex engineering and construction projects.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a commercially astute professional to play a pivotal role in protecting project profitability, strengthening commercial governance, and driving financial performance from project award through to final completion.
Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Construction Teams and Executive Leadership, you will provide the commercial oversight and financial discipline required to deliver successful projects in demanding, fast-paced environments.
The OpportunityAs a senior member of the project delivery team, you will take ownership of project cost management, commercial governance, forecasting and risk management across multiple concurrent projects.
You'll be responsible for implementing robust commercial controls, improving reporting and forecasting, managing contractual risk, and ensuring projects are delivered within approved budgets while maintaining strong commercial performance.
Key ResponsibilitiesCommercial ManagementLead commercial management across a portfolio of engineering and construction projects.Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts and cost plans.Monitor project expenditure and identify cost variances, trends and commercial risks.Implement corrective actions to protect project profitability and financial performance.Cost Control & Project DeliveryEstablish and maintain robust cost control systems throughout the project lifecycle.Track project performance against approved budgets and commercial targets.Assess variations, claims and change orders while ensuring sound commercial governance.Provide accurate forecasting and financial reporting to senior management.Contract & Risk ManagementIdentify commercial, contractual and financial risks across multiple projects.Develop mitigation strategies that minimise commercial exposure.Support contract administration and commercial negotiations where required.Ensure compliance with commercial procedures and governance frameworks.Stakeholder ManagementPartner with Project Managers, Engineers and Construction teams to ensure commercial objectives remain aligned with project delivery.Challenge project decisions where they may negatively impact cost, margin or contractual obligations.Present commercial performance reports and recommendations to senior leadership.Build strong working relationships across commercial, finance, engineering and operational teams.Continuous ImprovementDevelop and improve commercial processes, reporting systems and cost management tools.Drive greater consistency, visibility and financial discipline across the project portfolio.Contribute to the development of best-practice commercial management frameworks.About YouDegree in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial or construction discipline.Professional registration or eligibility for registration with a recognised Quantity Surveying body will be advantageous.Significant experience in senior Quantity Surveying or commercial project management roles.Proven experience supporting major engineering, infrastructure or construction projects.Strong commercial acumen with exceptional cost control and financial management skills.Excellent analytical ability and a proactive approach to identifying commercial risk.Confident communicator with the ability to influence multidisciplinary project teams and senior stakeholders.Highly Desirable ExperienceMajor infrastructure or industrial projects.EPC or EPCM contracting environments.Energy, utilities, mining or heavy engineering sectors.Contract administration, claims management and commercial negotiations.Portfolio-level cost reporting and financial governance.Working closely with project delivery and construction management teams.Why Apply?Join a growing engineering business delivering technically challenging infrastructure projects.Play a key role in protecting project profitability and commercial performance.Work alongside experienced engineering and project delivery professionals.Influence commercial strategy across a diverse project portfolio.Competitive remuneration package with excellent long-term career development opportunities.If you're an experienced Quantity Surveyor who thrives in commercially demanding project environments and enjoys driving financial discipline across complex engineering projects, we'd welcome a confidential discussion.
