An established specialist engineering and mining-equipment organisation is seeking an experienced Regional Sales & Business Development Manager to grow its capital equipment, refurbishment, spare parts and aftermarket business across Southern and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The successful candidate will have strong technical sales experience within mineral processing, comminution or heavy mining equipment, with direct exposure to grinding mills, rotary scrubbers or closely related processing equipment. The position requires someone capable of developing new business, managing strategic mining accounts and translating plant and maintenance requirements into commercially viable engineered solutions.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and execute a regional sales and business development strategy across the mining, mineral processing and heavy industrial sectors.Identify and secure opportunities involving grinding mills, rotary scrubbers, mill components and associated mechanical equipment.Sell new capital equipment, replacement equipment, refurbishment programmes, spare parts, field services and aftermarket solutions.Develop relationships with mining houses, mineral-processing plants, EPCM contractors, consulting engineers and project developers.Engage with plant managers, engineering managers, maintenance managers, metallurgists, procurement teams and project stakeholders.Conduct regular customer visits, site inspections and technical-commercial discussions across Southern and Sub-Saharan Africa.Understand customer plant requirements and work with engineering teams to develop suitable technical solutions and proposals.Manage opportunities involving ball mills, SAG mills, AG mills, rod mills, rotary scrubbers and related components.Support sales of mill shells, trunnions, liners, girth gears, pinions, bearings, gearboxes, drive systems and lubrication systems.Identify equipment refurbishment, upgrade, repair, reverse-engineering and life-extension opportunities.Prepare technical-commercial proposals, quotations, tenders, forecasts and account-development plans.Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, delivery requirements and service agreements.Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and provide regular forecasting and market-intelligence reports.Monitor mining projects, plant expansions, shutdowns and equipment-replacement programmes.Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, project, workshop and field-service teams throughout the sales and delivery process.Represent the organisation at customer meetings, mining conferences, technical presentations and industry events.Maintain customer relationships after project delivery and identify recurring aftermarket and service opportunities.Essential ExperienceAt least 8 to 15 years of technical sales, business development or key account management experience.Proven experience selling equipment or engineered solutions into mining and mineral-processing operations.Direct exposure to grinding mills, rotary scrubbers, comminution equipment or closely related mineral-processing machinery.Experience selling capital equipment together with aftermarket services, spare parts, refurbishment or maintenance solutions.Established relationships with mining houses, EPCM organisations, mineral-processing plants and engineering stakeholders.Experience managing long and technically complex sales cycles.Regional travel experience across Southern Africa or Sub-Saharan Africa.Strong technical-commercial proposal, negotiation and account-management capabilities.Preferred Technical ExposureExperience involving several of the following would be advantageous:
Ball mills, SAG mills, AG mills and rod millsRotary scrubbers and ore-washing equipmentComminution and mineral-processing circuitsMill shells, heads, trunnions and linersGirth gears, pinions and open gearingIndustrial gearboxes and drive systemsBearings, couplings and lubrication systemsCrushers, screens, feeders and conveyorsKilns, dryers, coolers or other rotating equipmentEquipment refurbishment and reverse engineeringField services, installation and commissioningShutdown maintenance and plant upgradesQualificationsDiploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Mining Engineering or a related technical discipline is preferred.A commercial qualification combined with substantial mining-equipment experience may also be considered.A valid driver's licence and willingness to travel extensively are essential.Ideal Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate will be technically credible in front of engineers and plant stakeholders while remaining strongly commercially driven. They should understand how grinding and scrubbing equipment operates within a mineral-processing plant and be capable of identifying opportunities across the full equipment lifecycle, including new equipment, replacement components, upgrades, refurbishment, maintenance and field services.
