As the business continues to strengthen its project delivery capabilities, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quality Assurance Manager to take ownership of quality management systems, standards and compliance across the organisation's project portfolio.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an experienced and commercially aware Quality Assurance Manager to lead and oversee the company's quality assurance function.

This is a Johannesburg Head Office-based position with responsibility for quality management across all company projects and operational sites.

The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational oversight, ensuring that quality management systems, procedures and standards are consistently implemented across multiple projects.

Working closely with senior management, project managers, construction managers, engineers and site-based quality teams, the incumbent will drive quality governance, compliance, risk mitigation and continuous improvement throughout the organisation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESQuality Management & GovernanceDevelop, implement, maintain and continuously improve the company's Quality Management System (QMS).Ensure alignment with ISO 9001, applicable engineering standards, statutory requirements and contractual obligations.Establish standardised quality policies, procedures and reporting frameworks across all projects.Provide strategic quality guidance to senior management and project delivery teams.Promote a strong culture of quality, accountability and continuous improvement.Multi-Project Quality OversightTake overall responsibility for quality assurance across the company's active project portfolio.Monitor quality performance across multiple construction, engineering and industrial sites.Ensure consistent implementation of project quality plans, inspection and test plans (ITPs), quality control procedures and technical specifications.Provide oversight and support to site-based QA/QC personnel, engineers and construction teams.Conduct periodic site visits, audits and quality reviews where required.Identify potential quality risks and implement preventative measures.Compliance, Auditing & Risk ManagementPlan, coordinate and oversee internal and external quality audits.Ensure compliance with relevant ISO standards, client specifications, contractual requirements and applicable engineering codes.Oversee non-conformance reporting (NCRs), root-cause investigations and corrective and preventative actions.Monitor subcontractor and supplier quality compliance.Ensure appropriate quality documentation, traceability and records management.Support client audits, inspections and regulatory assessments.Engineering & Construction QualityOversee quality requirements associated with mechanical, electrical, structural and industrial construction activities.Ensure appropriate quality controls are implemented for fabrication, welding, installations, maintenance and commissioning activities, where applicable.Work with technical teams to resolve quality-related challenges.Monitor inspection requirements, testing procedures and project handover documentation.Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.Leadership & Stakeholder ManagementProvide functional leadership, mentorship and technical support to project quality personnel.Collaborate with project managers, construction managers and engineering teams to resolve quality-related challenges.Engage with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and external auditors on quality matters.Develop quality performance indicators and present consolidated quality reports to senior management.Identify opportunities to improve project delivery efficiency, reduce rework and minimise quality-related costs.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

Degree or diploma in Engineering, Quality Management, Construction Management or a related technical discipline.Formal ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems training or certification.Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor certification would be advantageous.Additional quality management or engineering certifications would be beneficial.

Experience

Approximately 8-15 years' experience in quality assurance and quality control within engineering, construction, industrial infrastructure or related project environments.Demonstrated experience in a senior QA/QC management or quality leadership capacity.Proven experience implementing and managing Quality Management Systems.Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001, auditing procedures, NCR management and corrective actions.Experience overseeing quality across multiple projects or operational sites.Exposure to mechanical, electrical, industrial construction, power-generation or petrochemical environments would be advantageous.Experience managing quality personnel, subcontractors and client quality requirements.Strong understanding of engineering documentation, technical specifications and construction quality processes.KEY COMPETENCIESQuality management systems and ISO 9001 complianceMulti-project quality assurance leadershipEngineering and construction quality controlQuality audits and regulatory complianceInspection and test plans (ITPs)Non-conformance and corrective action managementRoot-cause analysis and risk mitigationContractor and supplier quality managementQuality documentation and project handoverTechnical reporting and stakeholder engagementLeadership, mentoring and continuous improvementStrong organisational and problem-solving abilitiesTHE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is a technically strong, hands-on quality leader who can operate confidently at both strategic and operational levels.

You will be comfortable working from a corporate head office while maintaining visibility and control over quality performance across multiple project sites.

You will bring the ability to establish robust systems, challenge non-compliance constructively, support engineering and construction teams and engage effectively with senior leadership.

This is not a single-site QA/QC position. It requires an individual who can take ownership of the broader quality function and ensure consistent standards across the entire project portfolio.
