A leading international renewable energy company is seeking a Project Engineer to support the delivery of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and hybrid renewable energy projects across Africa. This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing sector and work on some of the region's most technically advanced energy infrastructure projects.

The Role

As Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical execution of utility-scale energy projects from handover through commissioning and final acceptance. You will act as the primary engineering interface between customers, suppliers, EPC contractors, and internal stakeholders, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual and technical requirements. This role offers exposure to both project execution and front-end engineering activities, providing the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead the technical execution of utility-scale BESS and hybrid renewable energy projects.Review project requirements, technical specifications, and performance guarantees before execution.Identify and manage technical risks, design changes, assumptions, and project deviations.Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and technical stakeholders.Review engineering studies, calculations, drawings, and technical documentation.Manage technical interfaces between battery suppliers, inverter manufacturers, EPC contractors, utilities, and clients.Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and project close-out activities.Validate communication, control, metering, and grid integration requirements.Participate in technical reviews, design workshops, and customer meetings.Support continuous improvement of engineering standards, processes, and methodologies.Travel to project sites across Southern and East Africa as required.RequirementsBachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred).Minimum 3years' experience as a Project Engineer within:Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)Solar PV + BESS projectsUtility-scale renewable energy projectsStrong understanding of project execution and engineering management.Experience reviewing technical studies, calculations, and design documentation.Knowledge of FAT, SAT, commissioning, and grid-connected electrical systems.Strong stakeholder management and client-facing skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced project environment.AdvantageousExperience with PVSyst, Homer, ETAP, DIgSILENT, CAD, and MS Project.Exposure to MV electrical systems and grid integration.Previous involvement in utility-scale energy storage projects.Experience supporting both engineering and commercial project activities.
