The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the effective planning, coordination, supervision, and execution of mechanical maintenance and condition monitoring activities at a large industrial water treatment facility. The role ensures plant availability, equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, and safe maintenance execution through effective leadership of maintenance personnel and implementation of preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies.
The incumbent will provide technical guidance to artisans and maintenance personnel, oversee maintenance planning and scheduling, manage equipment performance monitoring, and ensure maintenance activities are completed according to established standards, procedures, and contractual requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesMaintenance Planning and ExecutionPlan, organise, prioritise, and supervise all mechanical maintenance activities.Coordinate preventative, predictive, condition-based, and corrective maintenance programmes.Ensure maintenance tasks are executed according to approved schedules and maintenance plans.Monitor maintenance effectiveness and ensure timely completion of all planned work.Manage plant equipment breakdowns and ensure rapid response to minimise downtime.Prioritise maintenance activities based on operational requirements and equipment criticality.Review maintenance history and identify recurring failures and improvement opportunities.Ensure maintenance activities comply with plant standards and operational requirements.Asset ManagementMaintain strict adherence to the Maintenance Information System (SAP).Ensure all plant assets are accurately identified, registered, tracked, and controlled.Maintain asset records, maintenance histories, and equipment documentation.Support lifecycle management initiatives and equipment reliability programmes.Ensure all maintenance work is properly documented and closed out within required timeframes.Condition Monitoring and ReliabilityManage and coordinate condition monitoring programmes.Monitor equipment performance using predictive maintenance techniques.Review vibration analysis results and implement corrective actions where required.Ensure ongoing monitoring of pumps, gearboxes, rotating equipment, structures, machinery, and associated plant equipment.Analyse equipment condition trends and recommend reliability improvements.Assist in conducting failure investigations and root cause analyses.Support FMECA processes and reliability-centred maintenance initiatives.Technical Support and TroubleshootingProvide advanced mechanical troubleshooting support.Guide artisans and maintenance personnel during complex fault-finding activities.Evaluate equipment failures and determine appropriate repair solutions.Recommend process and equipment improvements to enhance plant reliability.Review repair methods and ensure compliance with engineering standards.Participate in commissioning and optimisation activities for new installations.Team Leadership and SupervisionLead, supervise, mentor, and coordinate maintenance personnel.Allocate resources effectively to achieve maintenance objectives.Monitor team productivity and performance.Conduct training, coaching, and development activities.Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.Participate in performance management processes.Reporting and AdministrationCompile and submit maintenance reports and operational feedback.Monitor monthly maintenance performance indicators.Ensure completion and submission of:Preventative maintenance schedulesJob cardsTimesheetsMaintenance recordsInspection reportsCondition monitoring reportsMaintain accurate maintenance documentation and records.Stock and Inventory ManagementManage maintenance stores and spare parts inventories.Ensure availability of critical spares.Monitor stock levels against contractual requirements.Implement inventory control best practices.Verify receiving and issuing of maintenance materials.Maintain proper storage and preservation of equipment and components.Procurement and ProjectsAssist with technical specifications for repairs, refurbishments, and new equipment.Support supplier evaluations and equipment sourcing activities.Participate in tender evaluations and procurement initiatives.Monitor quality control of repaired and refurbished equipment.Support implementation of new mechanical, electrical, and civil installations.Assist with project execution and commissioning activities.Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental CompliancePromote a strong safety culture across all maintenance activities.Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation.Maintain adherence to Mine Health and Safety requirements where applicable.Ensure compliance with ISO standards and management systems.Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments.Ensure safe use of tools, lifting equipment, and rigging equipment.Monitor contractor compliance with site safety standards.Drive continuous improvement in safety and housekeeping standards.Working EnvironmentThe role is based within an industrial water treatment environment and may involve exposure to:
