Shift Engineer - Geothermal Power

We are seeking a qualified and motivated Shift Engineer for their new 35 MW Menengai Geothermal Plant in Nakuru County, Kenya. This is a permanent, full-time position reporting to the Operations Manager. You will be crucial in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the power plant during your assigned shift, supervising plant operators, and maintaining high plant availability and performance.
Responsibilities:
- Operating steam turbines and auxiliary systems according to procedures.
- Monitoring plant performance and reporting anomalies.
- Executing first-level maintenance and participating in planned outages.
- Leading emergency response during incidents.
- Supervising plant operators and fostering a safety-first culture.
- Ensuring compliance with HSESS policies and operational procedures.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation/Control Engineering or equivalent.
- Professional registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
- Minimum 5 years' experience in power plant operations (preferably geothermal or steam turbine-based).
- Previous supervisory or shift-based engineering role experience is preferred.
- Strong grasp of power plant systems, thermodynamics, and process control.
- Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and CMMS (e.g., SAP) is an advantage.
- Proven leadership, decision-making, analytical, and communication skills.
- Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
